What Mr. Heng Will Never Let His Team Do

When Mr. Heng founded AC Service Pro Subang Jaya in 2018, the rule he wrote into the workshop manual on day one was simple: never charge fresh gas into a system without first locating the leak. That rule still drives every refill we do today. Pumping refrigerant into a leaking line is the single most common scam in the Malaysian aircond trade. The unit cools for two weeks, the customer is happy, and the technician is long gone before the same problem shows up again.

We do it differently. Every aircond gas top-up Subang Jaya appointment includes a full pressure test before the gauge ever touches the service port, and we explain in plain language exactly why your unit lost its charge in the first place.

Common Leak Triggers in Local Homes

Refrigerant does not burn off or evaporate inside a sealed system. If your unit is suddenly blowing weak cool air, something is leaking somewhere along the copper line, the flare nut, or the internal coil itself. The conditions in this part of Selangor accelerate the problem in three ways:

  • Constant compressor cycling. Subang Jaya runs at 32 to 33 degrees most afternoons. Units rarely stop for long, which puts steady mechanical stress on flare nuts and brazed joints.
  • Highway and rail vibration. Homes near the Federal Highway, KESAS, and the Kelana Jaya LRT line absorb low-grade vibration around the clock. Older brazed joints loosen surprisingly fast.
  • Coastal humidity corrosion. The high indoor and outdoor humidity speeds up corrosion on bare copper and on aluminium coils inside ageing condensers, especially in units installed before 2015.

By the time you notice the air feels lukewarm, the unit has typically been bleeding pressure for several weeks.

Identifying the Right Refrigerant

Three refrigerants are still in regular circulation across Malaysian homes, and pouring the wrong one into your system will damage the compressor. We always verify the type against the nameplate sticker before opening a single can.

  • R22. The legacy refrigerant found in pre-2015 units. It is being phased out under the Montreal Protocol, so it grows more expensive every year.
  • R410A. The standard fill in inverter and non-inverter models from roughly 2010 to 2018. Still widely stocked across Selangor.
  • R32. The current factory fill for all new units from 2018 onwards. Lower global warming potential, better energy efficiency, and now usually the cheapest option per kilogram.

Not sure which one your unit takes? Snap a photo of the outdoor condenser sticker and send it to 012-2252 623. We will identify it within minutes and confirm whether the gas is on our van.

Our Six-Step Pressure-First Protocol

We follow the same procedure on every refill, residential or commercial. The point is to catch leaks before, not after, paying for fresh gas.

  1. Manifold attachment. Gauges go onto the low and high service ports.
  2. Baseline reading. Pressure is compared against the factory specification for your specific HP rating and refrigerant.
  3. Leak hunting. Soap bubble test on every flare nut, then an electronic sniffer along the brazed joints inside the outdoor unit.
  4. Minor leak repair. Pinhole leaks can usually be re-soldered on the spot at no extra charge.
  5. Vacuum pumping. The system is evacuated to remove moisture before any new charge is added.
  6. Measured charge. Refrigerant is added with a precision digital scale to factory spec, never by guesswork or by feel.

If we find a major leak that cannot be soldered, we stop, explain the options in writing, and let you decide whether to proceed with a coil repair or defer the work. There is never any pressure to do same-day work that you did not budget for.

Cost Guide for Subang Jaya Homes

Our rates are flat and published upfront. There are no surprise transport fees inside our service area, no inflated weekend surcharges, and no upsells if you decline them.

  • R22 top-up (1.0HP to 1.5HP): from RM150
  • R410A top-up (1.5HP to 2.5HP): from RM100
  • R32 top-up (1.5HP to 2.5HP): from RM80
  • Minor leak soldering: included where possible, otherwise quoted separately
  • Commercial cassette and VRF units: quoted per site after inspection

For homeowners across the SS-numbered townships, the most common job is a 1.5HP or 2.0HP R32 refill on a Daikin or Panasonic split unit, which usually lands in the RM80 to RM130 range.

Bundling With a Chemical Wash Saves Money

Every chemical wash booking already includes up to 10 kg of free refrigerant top-up. For nearly every residential 1.5HP to 2.5HP split unit, that covers a complete refill at zero additional cost. If you are due for a chemical wash and you also need a top-up, ordering the chemical wash package is almost always cheaper than paying for the standalone gas service.

Commercial clients near the Taipan Business Centre and SS15 should ask about our maintenance contracts. Bundling the annual chemical wash, gas check, and emergency callout coverage on a rolling schedule typically works out at half the cost of paying for each problem as it appears.

Why DIY Refills Are a False Economy

Cheap top-up kits sold online almost always provide an inaccurate pressure reading, rarely include a vacuum pump, and make proper leak detection impossible. A careless DIY recharge can overcharge the compressor and destroy a unit that was perfectly repairable a week earlier. There is also a regulatory dimension that many homeowners overlook. Malaysia’s Department of Environment treats refrigerant handling as a regulated activity, and our technicians are DOE compliant for both R22 recovery and R32 charging. If your unit is still under manufacturer warranty, an unofficial top-up will void it instantly. Always insist on a written leak test record from a certified technician.

How to Book a Same-Day Visit

Send a WhatsApp message to 012-2252 623 with your unit HP rating, brand, and (if you know it) the refrigerant type. Our locally-based crew will confirm an appointment within 24 hours and arrive with the correct refrigerant on the van, not after a second trip back to the workshop. We respond from inside Subang Jaya, so call-outs across SS15, USJ, Bandar Sunway, Putra Heights, Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam are usually completed inside the same working day.
